How Beautiful Central Illinois Weddings Come Together!

How does a beautiful central Illinois wedding all come together?  It takes a team of vendors collaborating, communicating and planning with the bride & groom!!  We were thankful for Ephiphany Farms and Palace Events staff who worked smoothly with us for Alex and MacKenzie’s ceremony and successfully flipped the room for the reception!  What a knockout it turned out to be!! Alex and MacKenzie chose to have photos taken at the location of their first date Emack & Bolios in uptown Normal, IL.  Photos  by Micah McCoy Studio.
Wedding Day, Wedding flowers, bride, groom
On their first date they enjoyed ice-cream and then walked around uptown Normal for a couple of hours talking.  They quickly realized they had a connection and felt a sense of comfort and familiarity with each other.
Wedding aisle decor, garland  Altar arrangement, wedding decor, wedding flowers
We custom created yards and yards of mixed green garlands for the tables and MacKenzie’s mom had a great idea to use them to line the aisle seats at the ceremony, then re-use for the reception.  They looked fabulous garnished with a few blooms and ribbons.

MacKenzie’s favorite part of wedding planning was dress shopping.  She stated, “Wedding dresses are made to make you look good and it was so fun to try on different styles/silhouttes!  I ended up choosing something completely different than I thought I would.  MacKenzie  had two handsome European ushers and she and her family were so delighted  that they could come from Germany and Italy for the wedding – they were former foreign exchange students who had lived with her family!!
Tall centerpiece arrangements, wedding garland, reception table decor  reception decor, garland with blooms, table centerpiece arrangement
After the ceremony, which was held in the upper-level ballroom at Epiphany Farms, the guests were ushered into Anju Above for appetizers while Palace Events brought in their  beautiful harvest tables, and we placed the garlands and blooms of purple trachellium, White O’hara garden roses and Ocean Song lavender roses to decorate the tables.
Purple bridal bouquet, wedding flowers, wedding bouquet
For her wedding decor and bridal bouquet, MacKenzie chose a mix of purple trachellium, stock, astrantia, lavender spray roses & wax flower and white ranunculus.  Her biggest challenge with wedding planning  was staying true to their vision when other close family and friends offered their opinions and even though she and Alex wanted them to feel included –  yet they wanted it to be what they had envisioned!!
Bride and groom, wedding day, bridal bouquet
What is her advice to newly engaged couples planning their wedding?  “Remember to have fun!!  This is one of the best times in your relationship and it goes by so fast!  Try not to let things stress you out and if it starts to feel like work, take a break!”

Fresh Spring Bouquets For Your Central Illinois Wedding

March  is finally here and spring is just around the corner which finds us flinging ourselves back into wedding season!!  If you are planning a spring wedding, how wonderful to be able to include some of these gorgeous spring blooms.  We picked these bouquets from Pinterest to bring you the beauty of spring.

Lilac

spring wedding bouquet
Lilacs are a flower best used when in season and oh how gorgeous they are.  If you are lucky enough to have a lilac bush you already know how delightfully their scent is carried on the breeze.  Their soft purple shades blend perfectly with other spring blooms to make a beautiful bridal bouquet for your central Illinois wedding.

Daffodil

   daffodil wedding bouquet
The daffodil has to be one of the cheeriest blooms to announce spring’s arrival and whether used more subtly with these peach parrot tulips and scented narcissus in the wedding bouquet (upper left) or bright and bold with the larger King Daffodils and yellow mimosa in the bridal bouquet (upper right), they definitely say spring!!

Tulip

Tulips rival the rose for the sheer magnitude of wonderful colors available –  from the bright jewel tones to the softest pastels and everything in between.  They come in a fascinating assortment including the fringed edge, lily & peony shaped. Other gorgeous varieties available are the parrot tulips (pictured  in the wedding bouquet – two above)  and the larger french tulips.  They look perfectly elegant mixed with garden roses  (upper left) and equally  charming in a wildflower bridal bouquet (upper right.)

Peony

pink peony wedding bouquet  peony wedding bouquet
I have heard it said that the rose is jealous when the peony blooms and it must be true – just look at the abundance of petals – what could be more luxurious?!!  Even though peonies are now available almost year around, they are much  more reasonably priced and so perfectly beautiful when they are in season.  They range in shades from pure white, blush, pink, coral, hot pink, magenta, red and burgundy and look ever so elegant by themselves and so fabulous mixed with roses and other seasonal textures & greens to bring you a gorgeous and luxurious wedding bouquet.

Iris

iris bouquet, purple wedding bouquet  Blue iris bouquet
The smaller Japanes and Siberian varieties of Iris are dainty enough to mix with  coordinating blooms for a lovely spring wedding bouquet.  The purple bouquet (above left) is anything but boring with the blend of  lavender tulips & orchids, purple hydrangea and lisianthus offering a perfect backdrop for the purple iris.  What a perfect marriage of blue, green/gray & white shades and textures in the cascade styled bouquet (upper right)!!

Why Did These Texans Wed In Illinois?

Meghan grew up  in Texas, but loved visiting her grandparents on their farm in Illinois and attending the Shiloh church in La Prairie with them.   She was even baptized there, so when the last service was held in 1999, her Grandfather bought the church  so Meghan could one day have her wedding there.
 country church 325 romanandmeghan325
They did indeed get married at the old church on Sunday, May 29th, 2016 and they broke the  attendance record with 125 guests attending from 21 different states!!  It was a very memorable day for them!
 churchspray325  pewdecor325
Roman and Meghan who both live in Texas, but have family in Illinois, were first introduced to each other by Meghan’s sister who works at the same accounting firm as Roman.  For their first date, the marachi band at the Mexican Restaurant mistakenly congratulated them on their “one-year anniversary”!  The next day Roman invited Meghan out to celebrate their “two year anniversary” and the rest is history!!
 getawaycar650
For this destination wedding the  floral decor came together with phone chats and exchanged emails and photos.  It was so fun to finally meet the bride on her wedding day!  Meghan chose mixed green garlands with lots of white blooms to decorate the outside and inside of the old church, the old get-away car, as well as the bridal bouquets, bouts, corsages and reception venue decor.
 JLP_8718p325  weddingparty325
They were blessed with beautiful weather on the Illinois prairie for their country church wedding and reception  which was held in the old barn at the picturesque Pointe D’Vine in Quincy, Illinois.  “The staff did an incredible job setting up, helping the vendors and making sure we had everything we needed to make our fairy-tale wedding a reality!”
 JLP_9608p325  JLP_1024p325
” Jennifer Lee Photographee was  very professional and absolutely wonderful to work with, capturing candid moments with non-instrusive photgraphy;   Riverside Smoke House BBQ was delicious and even better than Texas BBQ!”
 JLP_9602p325 JLP_9629p325
“The DJ was Tappe Brothers, a great choice for Quincy;  Krazy Cakes made a lovely and delicious cake.”
 cake325  JLP_0099p
Tips from Meghan ~ Provide a very detailed schedule and list of  suggested songs for your DJ ~Consider checking with your vendors and preferred venue  for their availability before you choose your date ~Having a day-of coordinator is extremely helpful in taking care of small but important favors and keeping you stress-free which is well worth the extra cost.

Five Central Illinois Wedding Vendors Make Dreams Come True!

Ryan and Kelly Maki were married on April 23rd, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and their reception was held at The Elks  in Pontiac, Illinois.  It was a gorgeous spring day for this happy couple which set the stage for their vendors to make their dream wedding come true. Here is how five central Illinois wedding vendors helped them achieve their vision for their special day.

1.  Their wedding photographer, The Art Photographic captured these beautiful images for them to enjoy looking back on with fond memories of their wedding day.

The top three photos were taken at Humiston Woods where the bluebells created a sea of blue!!

Advice from Kelly – “The wedding day goes incredibly fast, everyone will tell you that, but it’s so true. The best advice I can think of is to try to take a step back and enjoy the moment. It’s such a special day surrounded by your closest family and friends. I don’t remember feeling stressed once. I would take a step back and look around and would see my best friend I was marrying, surrounded by our best friends and family, and felt so much happiness and love 🙂 Your wedding day will be a perfect day regardless of any little things that might not go as planned.”

How To Infuse Your Personality Into Your Wedding

For Chris and Amanda Highland, having their reception at Hancock Stadium Club was a given considering Chris played football for the Redbirds.  However when we asked Amanda what her advice would be to other couples planning their weddings, she replied “Find ways to infuse your hobbies and personalities into your special day even if it means abandoning tradition; Come up with your own personal traditions!”
Amanda and Chris
Chris and Amanda personalized their wedding reception with hand-crafted items they made from wood pallets.

Among the items they created were boxes which they brought to us to fill with flowers and place lanterns on.

They also created a backdrop for their cake table and a picture display board.

The wedding photos were taken by Vivid Studios.  They didn’t let a little rain stop them or dampen their joy and it worked out perfectly that the rain stopped between the ceremony and reception and they could take photos on the field.  The table linens were by The Event Experience.

The Hancock Stadium Club is a wonderful venue for a wedding reception and the staff is great to work with. From a vendor’s perspective it is one of the easiest set-up locations with their large elevator and carts and the staff pitched right in and helped load and unload!  We really appreciated this as those wood boxes with the wet foam and flowers weighed in at 25 pounds!!
001p
We were so excited for Chris and Amanda when she informed us just a few days after their wedding that Chris had been drafted by the New Orlean Saints!!
334p 179p
For her bridal bouquets Amanda chose a mix of freesia, stock, roses and eucalyptus. It’s such a joy for us when brides are so excited over their wedding flowers and Amanda was no exception; it was so much fun to present her bridal bouquet to her!!  Amanda’s mother brought us lace from her own wedding dress which we wrapped Amanda’s bridal bouquet with.
019p
Words of wisdom from Amanda –  Brides, share you wedding vision early on with those who will be helping plan (MOB, MOG, MOH, Groom, etc.) Be sure to have your wedding planners (official or unofficial) at the meetings with your vendors so they can build relationships. Your bridal party and family want your day to be perfect but they all have their own idea of what that means. Come together for a meeting of the minds to discuss how you envision the day going, specifically a hour by hour breakdown.

How Did Jimmy Propose To Erica?

When Jimmy made plans to propose to Erica, he included his seven nieces and nephews in popping the big question.  He cleverly came up with the idea for each on of them to hold a sign with the seven magical words { Erica – Will – You – Marry – Our – Uncle – Jimmy?.}
IMG_20160402_134316481paint650
How cute is that!!  And of course Jimmy knew there was no way Erica was going to say no to him and all those special neices and nephews.  What a fun surprise and of course Erica said YES!!

They say that March winds bring April showers – well there were no showers for this April 2, 2016 wedding but there sure were some mighty winds left over from March!  With wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour we are seriously amazed that S & J Maurer photography was able to capture these beautiful outdoor photos!!

Erica (Saathoff) Dehm teaches 5th grade at Westview Grade School in Fairbury, Illinois and Jimmy Dehm is known to many as he takes part in racing, so it was a must to go out to the Speedway (which is across the road from the school) for a photo.

Erica and Jimmy were married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gilman.  The reception was held at The Walton Center in Fairbury, Illinois.  Erica wanted bright and colorful flowers for her wedding bouquets to coordinate with the coral bridesmaid dresses.  Pictured below is the floral spray that decorated the head table by Fancy Florals By Nancy a Fairbury, Illinois wedding florist.

Erica rented several old jars from Old Oaks Vintage Rentals in Lexington, IL and Fancy Florals By Nancy filled the jars with bright flowers to coordinate with the wedding bouquets.

The grand staircase at The Walton Center makes a unique entryway all decorated up with vintage shredders which housed votive candles from Old Oaks Vintage Rentals.  Photography by Sara Maurer made a big announcement recently that they will not be photographing weddings anymore, but concentrating on the family & baby side of the business.  We will be sad not to be running into them as we deliver flowers at weddings and want to wish them the best as they continue to take great family photos!!

Nancy is absolutely fabulous to work with! There were many things that I felt like I worried about for the wedding, but the flowers were definitely not one of them! I met with her a few times before the wedding and she took a lot of time to sit and discuss different options with me to make my vision for my flowers perfect!  – Erica Dehm Call, text or email Fancy Florals By Nancy to receive your free consultation 309-212-6570 or fancyfloralsbynancy@hotmail.com

What Colors Are Trending For 2016?

A Softer Take On Color For 2016

For the first time, the blending of two shades are chosen as the Pantone color of the year.  It feels like deja vu for those of us old enough to remember the 80’s, with Pantone’s selection of Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue!  Actually the shades chosen for this year are a touch softer than the country blue and mauve which dominated the market three decades ago.
ce52420e6ca8e79e00b201356032fba5
Rose quartz is a gentle tone that conveys compassion and Serenity blue is as weightless and airy as the sky above us.  Both colors offer feelings of calm and tranquility in the midst of turbulence around us. For the bride this brings a beautiful soft touch in fabrics as well as flowers for bridal bouquets, boutonniere and corsages.
 957eccd2eb26b5098eddf37ee9efcdd9
Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue shade, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.  Blended with soft green and gray foliage, wedding bouquets created from flowers in these shades will present a calming balance to the ceremony.

Rose quartz and Serenity blue are appealing in all finishes, matte, metallic and glossy, the engaging combo joins easily with other mid-tones including greens and purples, rich browns, and all shades of yellow and pink. Add in silver or hot brights for more splash and sparkle.  Source: Pantone Color of The Year 2016

Hydrangeas and delphinium are two wonderful sources of the soft blue of serenity and there is a wonderful selection of rose shades found in roses, ranunculus and many others for wedding bouquets, boutonniere and  reception centerpiece arrangements.  These pastel shades would be perfect for a spring wedding!

What Was This Bride’s Biggest Wedding Planning Challenge?

Planning An Out-Of-State Wedding

Kurt and Kristina pulled off a beautiful, elegant wedding and overcame special challenges of out-of-state planning and drenching rains on their wedding day!  Photographs by Tyler and Christina Hoff of  “T & C Photographie
 T&C_K&K-160p  T&C_K&K-360p

What was your biggest challenge?

Planning a Central Illinois wedding from Virginia was definitely a challenge!  I knew early that I needed to find vendors with good communication skills as the majority of our conversations would be through phone or email.  I made sure to reach out to vendors that I was interested in working with soon after getting engaged.  This gave me a chance to look through portfolios of their work, find out about pricing, and get a feel for their communication styles.  Selecting vendors I was really comfortable with made the planning process much easier.

Kurt and Kristina chose to get married at the gorgeous Allerton Park and Retreat Center in Monticello, Illinois and were hoping for an outdoor wedding on the beautiful grounds of the park and then move inside the mansion for the reception.  The weather had other ideas for that day however!  We love her black rubber boots which saved her gold slippers from the mud (see below).   Thankfully the rain stopped long enough that they could take photos outside.
T&C_K&K-229p T&C_K&K-376p

Would you do anything different?

If I could control the weather, my answer would be, “Have it not rain all day!”  Thankfully we had a rain back-up plan, so the ceremony was moved inside and the venue staff did a great job coordinating that change.  Other than the rain, we ran into surprisingly few mishaps the day of!

Kristina had many great ideas and was meticulous in her details & planning.  For her wedding flowers, Kristina chose coral peonies, pink & blush garden roses, stock, wax flower and assorted ferns & greens.  Fancy Florals By Nancy, a Fairbury wedding florist, delighted Kristina with her  wedding bouquets and wedding reception decor including hand-wired garlands to decorate the mantle, chalkboard and bride & groom chairs.

What did you enjoy the most?

I loved getting to see all the details come together and the vision I had for the wedding brought to life.  We had some traditional elements to the day, but having special touches that incorporated unique elements of our relationship made the day that much more meaningful.  A few of my favorites were our signature drinks named after our three dogs, popcorn favors (one of our favorite treats!), and the giant monogram we used as a guest book and now have on display in our home!

White Birch, Succulents and Milk Glass Wedding Decor

Reid and Tiffany Zehr

Decorating for Reid and Tiffany’s wedding was a joint family effort with Tiffany’s dad, Corey cutting the birch wood pieces used in the table decor and Tiffany’s mom Beth finding old bottles and spraying them with a milk-glass finish.  In addition, Tiffany’s grandmother collected some of her Hen & Chick succulents for us to use along with the flowers to decorate the tables.

Tiffany chose a blend of purple, lavender and white for her wedding flowers to blend  with the soft lilac color of her bridesmaid’s dresses.   The gray/green succulents and seeded eucalyptus added the perfect contrast to soften the look for the wedding bouquets.

The white birch logs added a woodsy/garden feel and the milk glass and lace runners kept the wedding centerpiece decor from being an overly rustic affair!

We enjoyed working with this family and loved all of their creative ideas!!  Our passion is working alongside couples to help them achieve the wedding they have always dreamed of.
