How Beautiful Central Illinois Weddings Come Together!

How does a beautiful central Illinois wedding all come together?  It takes a team of vendors collaborating, communicating and planning with the bride & groom!!  We were thankful for Ephiphany Farms and Palace Events staff who worked smoothly with us for Alex and MacKenzie’s ceremony and successfully flipped the room for the reception!  What a knockout it turned out to be!! Alex and MacKenzie chose to have photos taken at the location of their first date Emack & Bolios in uptown Normal, IL.  Photos  by Micah McCoy Studio.
Wedding Day, Wedding flowers, bride, groom
On their first date they enjoyed ice-cream and then walked around uptown Normal for a couple of hours talking.  They quickly realized they had a connection and felt a sense of comfort and familiarity with each other.

We custom created yards and yards of mixed green garlands for the tables and MacKenzie’s mom had a great idea to use them to line the aisle seats at the ceremony, then re-use for the reception.  They looked fabulous garnished with a few blooms and ribbons.
MacKenzie’s favorite part of wedding planning was dress shopping.  She stated, “Wedding dresses are made to make you look good and it was so fun to try on different styles/silhouttes!  I ended up choosing something completely different than I thought I would.  MacKenzie  had two handsome European ushers and she and her family were so delighted  that they could come from Germany and Italy for the wedding – they were former foreign exchange students who had lived with her family!!

After the ceremony, which was held in the upper-level ballroom at Epiphany Farms, the guests were ushered into Anju Above for appetizers while Palace Events brought in their  beautiful harvest tables, and we placed the garlands and blooms of purple trachellium, White O’hara garden roses and Ocean Song lavender roses to decorate the tables.
Purple bridal bouquet, wedding flowers, wedding bouquet
For her wedding decor and bridal bouquet, MacKenzie chose a mix of purple trachellium, stock, astrantia, lavender spray roses & wax flower and white ranunculus.  Her biggest challenge with wedding planning  was staying true to their vision when other close family and friends offered their opinions and even though she and Alex wanted them to feel included –  yet they wanted it to be what they had envisioned!!

What is her advice to newly engaged couples planning their wedding?  “Remember to have fun!!  This is one of the best times in your relationship and it goes by so fast!  Try not to let things stress you out and if it starts to feel like work, take a break!”

Adrienne & Stephen’s Garden Styled Blush Wedding

It is just as much a  joy for us to get to know our brides and grooms as it is to create their dream floral vision for their wedding day!  We first met Adrienne in 2015 when she was working for Palace Events and we were both setting up a wedding at Ewing Manor where we were doing the flowers.  She totally fell in love with the bridal flower crown we had created for the bride and asked us for our contact information as she had just become engaged.
Wedding photo, blush wedding bouquet, floral crown, bride and groom
We eventually met with her for her consultation and collaborated on ways to bring her floral vision to life.  She was so in love with the floral crowns that she had us create one for a surprise boudoir photo for Stephen!!  Adrienne chose a lush garden style with blush roses for her wedding bouquet.  She also requested a floral crown with coordinating spray roses and wax flowers to wear on her wedding day.

In keeping with the garden style we created lush mixed foliage bouquets for the bridesmaids bouquets and tied them with blush ribbon to match their dresses ~ these pretty photos are by Katelyn Turner Photography.  It is so rewarding to deliver the flowers to the bride on her wedding day and see her look of delight!!

Adrienne was so excited about her flowers , she was just the kind of bride we love to work with!!  We decorated our white birch arbor with a mixed greens garland for the couple to be married under.  This central Illinois wedding was held at the Doubletree in Bloomington.

Adrienne had a family member who was working in the restaurant business and so they were able to collect an assortment of whisky bottles and jars for the table decor at the receptions.  These beautiful harvest tables are from Palace Events in Bloomington.

Stephen brought us over 120 bottles which we filled big beautiful garden roses, sweet little spray roses, baby’s breath and eucalyptus for a simple but beautiful look fortheir reception table decor and which were a  perfect compliment to the light finish of the harvest tables.

Fresh Spring Bouquets For Your Central Illinois Wedding

March  is finally here and spring is just around the corner which finds us flinging ourselves back into wedding season!!  If you are planning a spring wedding, how wonderful to be able to include some of these gorgeous spring blooms.  We picked these bouquets from Pinterest to bring you the beauty of spring.

spring wedding bouquet
Lilacs are a flower best used when in season and oh how gorgeous they are.  If you are lucky enough to have a lilac bush you already know how delightfully their scent is carried on the breeze.  Their soft purple shades blend perfectly with other spring blooms to make a beautiful bridal bouquet for your central Illinois wedding.

   daffodil wedding bouquet
The daffodil has to be one of the cheeriest blooms to announce spring’s arrival and whether used more subtly with these peach parrot tulips and scented narcissus in the wedding bouquet (upper left) or bright and bold with the larger King Daffodils and yellow mimosa in the bridal bouquet (upper right), they definitely say spring!!

Tulips rival the rose for the sheer magnitude of wonderful colors available –  from the bright jewel tones to the softest pastels and everything in between.  They come in a fascinating assortment including the fringed edge, lily & peony shaped. Other gorgeous varieties available are the parrot tulips (pictured  in the wedding bouquet – two above)  and the larger french tulips.  They look perfectly elegant mixed with garden roses  (upper left) and equally  charming in a wildflower bridal bouquet (upper right.)

pink peony wedding bouquet  peony wedding bouquet
I have heard it said that the rose is jealous when the peony blooms and it must be true – just look at the abundance of petals – what could be more luxurious?!!  Even though peonies are now available almost year around, they are much  more reasonably priced and so perfectly beautiful when they are in season.  They range in shades from pure white, blush, pink, coral, hot pink, magenta, red and burgundy and look ever so elegant by themselves and so fabulous mixed with roses and other seasonal textures & greens to bring you a gorgeous and luxurious wedding bouquet.

iris bouquet, purple wedding bouquet  Blue iris bouquet
The smaller Japanes and Siberian varieties of Iris are dainty enough to mix with  coordinating blooms for a lovely spring wedding bouquet.  The purple bouquet (above left) is anything but boring with the blend of  lavender tulips & orchids, purple hydrangea and lisianthus offering a perfect backdrop for the purple iris.  What a perfect marriage of blue, green/gray & white shades and textures in the cascade styled bouquet (upper right)!!

What Was The Most Popular Wedding Color of 2016?

As we look back at our 2016 central Illinois weddings, wine-burgundy-cranberry shades of flowers were chosen by eight of our brides making it the most popular wedding shade out of the forty-five weddings we created bouquets for.  That is not surprising considering Marsala was 2015 color of the year and here in the midwest we aren’t as quick to embrace the newest style.

Coming in second place was plum with six of our central Illinois brides choosing plum colored blooms for their bridal bouquets.

We had three shades tie for third place – Peach, Pink and White.  Five of our 2016 brides chose peach shades for their wedding bouquets.

Another five of our central Illinois brides chose pink flowers for their bridal bouquets.

Classic white is always in and five our 2016 brides picked all white blooms for their wedding flowers.

Coming in fourth place we have blush – this surprised me as it seemed like I had worked with blush roses most of the wedding season!!  We actually did use a lot of blush flowers mixed in with the burgundy colored bouquets and our favorite blush roses we used the most were Quicksand and White O’hara garden rose.   We had four brides choose blush shades of flowers for their wedding bouquets.

Blue and Rust

Blue and rust colored flowers tied for fifth place with three brides choosing each color.

Yellow, Coral, Red and Lavender

Yellow and coral tied for sixth place with two brides choosing yellow flowers and two choosing coral.   And last but not least we had one bride choose red and one bride choose lavender.
We so enjoyed working with each and every bride and creating their floral vision for each of them.  We are greatly humbled once again by the lovely reviews our brides took time to leave for us and in so doing winning us “The Knot Best Of Weddings 2017”!!  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  While I loved many of the bouquets we created this year, I think my most favorite flowers I worked with this year was the antique lavender wedding – something rare and beautiful (see below right)!!!
We already have twenty weddings booked for 2017 and we are looking forward to spring and the returning wedding season.  However, after doing fifty events this past year,  many two and three per weekend, we are restructuring how we do business in 2017.   To be able to fully enjoy and give our full attention to each wedding, we are only booking one per weekend starting now in 2017;  thus we now have a $1,000 minimum to book with us.
We have met so many wonderful people and feel so blessed to be able to use our God-given talents to bring pleasure to others by working with God’s glorious flowers and to be able to use part of our profits to fund our mission trips to Mexico.
Happy New Year to all, Nancy

Fall Boho Chic Wedding Inspiration

When Lauren invited us to join in this fall boho chic photo shoot, we only hesitated because we already had two weddings booked for that weekend.  However it sounded so fun, we knew we had to do it and we are glad we did.  This girl’s got talent ~ Lauren F.otography!!

Lauren asked for a bridal bouquet & floral hair crown, groom’s bout, two table centerpieces and a mixed green garland.  Her colors were burgundy, mustard yellow and a touch of blue.

What Did This Bride Enjoy Most In Planning Her Central Illinois Wedding?

Jared and Molly  –  March 12, 2016

When we asked Molly what she enjoyed most about wedding planning, she said it was planning for decorating the reception which was held at The Walton Center in Fairbury.  She enjoyed browsing Pinterest and getting ideas, so when we met together to talk about wedding flowers, she and her mom already had many ideas for decorating.  Her vision was for a rustic, country theme and even though it was hard to narrow down her many ideas, she said it was so fun.  They rented our vintage doors to use as a back drop (see photo below.)
Vintage Door Backdrop
Jared proposed to Molly on Christmas.  As Molly opened up the last of her gifts, Jared pulled out a box and as he tossed it to her said “Here – I think this is what you want!”  Molly explains that Jared is a very shy guy and is not much for words, so of course she just laughed and said “YES!!”
For her wedding bouquet, Molly chose blue and white flowers to coordinate with the bridesmaid’s navy dresses.  Her mom surprised her by bringing us lace from her wedding dress to wrap around the handle of her bouquet.  Molly also personalized her bouquet in memory of her uncle by placing his initial on the bouquet handle.
The least enjoyable part of wedding planning for this couple was watching the $$$ add up and realizing they had to cut back their guest list.  It made it stressful worrying about causing hurt feelings and was just not a fun part of the planning!!
For the cupcake table they rented our wooden crates to display the cupcakes.  The cake table backdrop was made from wooden pallets in keeping with the rustic theme.  Molly’s mom hung an old wooden ladder over the head-table.  Hanging from the ladder were jars filled with string lights.
Molly chose our white birch boxes filled with white and blue flowers for half of the reception table arrangements.
The other half of the tables had our cylinder vase sets with submerged blooms and floating candles which Molly and her mom added twine and burlap/lace ribbon to and placed them on wood slabs.
Jared and Molly’s first dance was to “When you say nothing at all” by Alison Krauss.  Molly offers this advice on planning your wedding.  Don’t stress!!  It’s easy to say now and at the time I did stress, but now looking back I see that the most important things were having family friends with us to celebrate.  We had some things that we could have let interfere with the happiness of the day such as a funeral at the church leaving only two hours for us to decorate before guests started coming and me rear-ending someone with my car on rehearsal night.  I could have let it ruin my day, but I didn’t…why?…Because I still married my best friend at the end of the day!  Enjoy every minute because it goes so fast.
When the day came, everything we had both dreamed of came true!  We had our family and friends with us, the flowers were perfect, the decorations were perfect, I was in a dress that suited my style, the girls and guys all looked great!!

Why Did These Texans Wed In Illinois?

Meghan grew up  in Texas, but loved visiting her grandparents on their farm in Illinois and attending the Shiloh church in La Prairie with them.   She was even baptized there, so when the last service was held in 1999, her Grandfather bought the church  so Meghan could one day have her wedding there.
 country church 325 romanandmeghan325
They did indeed get married at the old church on Sunday, May 29th, 2016 and they broke the  attendance record with 125 guests attending from 21 different states!!  It was a very memorable day for them!
 churchspray325  pewdecor325
Roman and Meghan who both live in Texas, but have family in Illinois, were first introduced to each other by Meghan’s sister who works at the same accounting firm as Roman.  For their first date, the marachi band at the Mexican Restaurant mistakenly congratulated them on their “one-year anniversary”!  The next day Roman invited Meghan out to celebrate their “two year anniversary” and the rest is history!!
For this destination wedding the  floral decor came together with phone chats and exchanged emails and photos.  It was so fun to finally meet the bride on her wedding day!  Meghan chose mixed green garlands with lots of white blooms to decorate the outside and inside of the old church, the old get-away car, as well as the bridal bouquets, bouts, corsages and reception venue decor.
 JLP_8718p325  weddingparty325
They were blessed with beautiful weather on the Illinois prairie for their country church wedding and reception  which was held in the old barn at the picturesque Pointe D’Vine in Quincy, Illinois.  “The staff did an incredible job setting up, helping the vendors and making sure we had everything we needed to make our fairy-tale wedding a reality!”
 JLP_9608p325  JLP_1024p325
” Jennifer Lee Photographee was  very professional and absolutely wonderful to work with, capturing candid moments with non-instrusive photgraphy;   Riverside Smoke House BBQ was delicious and even better than Texas BBQ!”
 JLP_9602p325 JLP_9629p325
“The DJ was Tappe Brothers, a great choice for Quincy;  Krazy Cakes made a lovely and delicious cake.”
 cake325  JLP_0099p
Tips from Meghan ~ Provide a very detailed schedule and list of  suggested songs for your DJ ~Consider checking with your vendors and preferred venue  for their availability before you choose your date ~Having a day-of coordinator is extremely helpful in taking care of small but important favors and keeping you stress-free which is well worth the extra cost.

Five Central Illinois Wedding Vendors Make Dreams Come True!

Ryan and Kelly Maki were married on April 23rd, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and their reception was held at The Elks  in Pontiac, Illinois.  It was a gorgeous spring day for this happy couple which set the stage for their vendors to make their dream wedding come true. Here is how five central Illinois wedding vendors helped them achieve their vision for their special day.

1.  Their wedding photographer, The Art Photographic captured these beautiful images for them to enjoy looking back on with fond memories of their wedding day.

The top three photos were taken at Humiston Woods where the bluebells created a sea of blue!!

2.  Fancy Florals By Nancy  from Fairbury, IL custom created the bouquets, bouts and corsages as well as church decor and reception table centerpieces and garlands for the head table and dessert tables.

4. Palace Events , Bloomington, IL provided and set up the linens and chair rentals.  They offer a full line of event rentals as well as planning services.

5.  Bojeannies , Fairbury, IL catered the dessert table with beautiful cupcakes which taste as good as they look.

Advice from Kelly – “The wedding day goes incredibly fast, everyone will tell you that, but it’s so true. The best advice I can think of is to try to take a step back and enjoy the moment. It’s such a special day surrounded by your closest family and friends. I don’t remember feeling stressed once. I would take a step back and look around and would see my best friend I was marrying, surrounded by our best friends and family, and felt so much happiness and love 🙂 Your wedding day will be a perfect day regardless of any little things that might not go as planned.”

10 Best Flowers For An Outdoor Summer Wedding

If you are planning an outdoor summer wedding be sure to choose flowers that won’t wilt in the heat.  Here are our top ten flower recommendations for a beautiful bouquet that will stay fresh all day!

1. Tropicals

Tropical flowers love the heat!  Anthuriums and proteas are popular choices for wedding bouquets.  The  protea on the left has soft feather-like petals while the pincushion protea on the right adds a spiky texture.
 Tropical bouquet   Tropical bouquet1

2. Roses

Standard roses are hardier than many people realize.  They hold up very well and are easy to use alone  for a more formal look or mixed with other flowers for a garden or casual style.  They are available in about any color you would desire except there is no true blue rose.
 RoseBouquet1  MixedBouqetwithroses

3. Callas

The calla is able to last a long time without a water source.  It also is available in many shades and along with the rose is a popular choice for boutonnieres .  It too makes an elegant bouquet by itself or mixes beautifully with roses and other flowers.
 callabouquet  Whitecallabouquet

4.  Sunflowers

Nothing can beat a sunflower for a bright cheerful bouquet!  Sunflowers are also a good choice for  a rustic themed wedding.
 SunflowerBouquet  Sunflowerbouquet1

5. Succulents

Succulents have become very popular in the last few years for wedding bouquets.  Because they hold water in their thick fleshy leaves, they are a perfect solution to replace flowers in a hot dry location.  They mix in well with other greens and flowers and come in several shades from green, blue/gray to purple.

6.  Zinnias

The  zinnia is a bright, easy to grow, heat loving flower that resembles a dahlia without the price tag!  There are many beautiful shades and different varieties of zinnias from tiny to full and double.  These are perfect for mixing with other heat-loving garden flowers such as celosia, gomphrena, eryngium, statice, craspedia, etc. to create a wild flower look.
 zinniabouquet1  zinniabouquet

7.  Orchids

Even though orchids could have been included with the tropicals, we put them in a class by themselves as they are so versatile and are used in many design styles from  classical and elegant to casual and tropical.  They are perfect also for boutonniere and corsage work as they are so long lasting.  If your budget allows, you should for sure mix some of these exotic beauties into your summer bouquet.
 OrchidBouquet  orchidbouquet1

8.  Chrysanthemums

With so many varieties and colors of mums available and their relatively low cost, it makes perfect sense to include them in bouquets.  The large football mums in the photo to the left are becoming very popular again.  The button (green) and cushion (plum) mums in the photo on the right show how beautiful they are mixed in with roses and other flowers.
 mumbouquet2  mumbouquet

9.  Dahlias

Starting in July dahlias become available locally in Illinois making them a more affordable choice then when they are out of season.  They are available until the first frost which is usually the middle of October here in Illinois.  They have big showy blooms and are a popular choice for adorning the cake.
 dahliabouquet2  DahliaCake

10.  Carnations

Last on our list, but certainly not least is the carnation.  Snubbed by some brides, which is a shame as they can be tastefully designed into a beautiful bouquet and are very long lasting .  They hold up so well, they can even be strung on fishing line to create a floral backdrop.  Using all one color and massed together (bouquet on left) they look very elegant and even resemble garden roses with their ruffled petals.  There are so many beautiful colors available, by carefully blending shades of one color, a very beautiful effect is achieved. (Photo on right)
 carnationbouquet  carnationbouquet2
By using the right flowers, you can still have a hand-tied bouquet that will last through the heat of a summer day!  If you have your heart set on a hydrangea, anemone or other heat sensitive flower, a silk bloom can be mixed in with fresh flowers and no one will know difference.
